Spiritually, the temple represents the eternal cycle of life and death, with daily cremation rituals performed on the river’s ghats—a powerful and humbling experience for visitors. Only Hindus may enter the inner sanctum, but the temple complex offers a deep sense of devotion, with sadhus (holy men), chants, and ceremonial offerings enriching the sacred environment.

Once the royal palace of the Malla kings, the square is now a stunning collection of temples, courtyards, and ancient shrines, all rich with intricate wood and stone carvings that reflect centuries of craftsmanship.

This heritage site holds deep religious and spiritual significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. The square is home to the iconic Krishna Mandir, a unique temple built entirely of stone, as well as sacred Buddhist sites like the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), where monks still carry out daily rituals.

Then visit Boudhanath Stupa, located in the northeastern part of Kathmandu, it is one of the largest and most significant Buddhist Stupas in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands as a majestic white dome topped with a gilded spire and the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha painted on each side, symbolizing awareness and compassion. The stupa’s massive mandala design represents the Buddhist cosmos, and walking clockwise around it (a ritual called kora) while spinning prayer wheels or chanting mantras is a common devotional act.
